Is This Thing On?

What can you say, really, about Corncat? The image speaks for itself: http://home.82times.com/?p=115 (Someday I will learn to hyperlink. Hell, I'm not even sure if "hyperlink" is the word I want. Forgive me: I'm up far too late, I haven't finished packing for the trip to Bonnaroo--which begins tomorrow, as I drive toward Kentucky and a Richard Thompson show that I'm seeing so that I won't have my first taste of the Sweet Warrior band while sleepless and covered in filth in a Tennessee cornfield, even though it means missing the Thursday of Bonnaroo--and yet instead of packing, what do I do but haul out the Sculpey and make a Corncat? And watch a "House" rerun? And now I'm thinking of turning on that horrible late-night game show on GSN where Shandi is stuck in a vault....where was I?)

Anyway. So. Corncat. The mascot of my maiden trip to Bonnaroo.

I better get some sleep while I can.

Hi Pam, I'll be reading your blog, for I so wish I were going to both Lexington and well, lowered into the field just for the RT concert at Bonn. What the heck, I was too young for the first Woodstock and too old for the second one. But now I am a Richard Thompson lover and eager for your observations.
Julie (a librarian in Athens TN)

A librarian! You're right in the Thompson-fan demographic, then. Are you on the RT list?

I am your age group, I reckon. Not an unalloyed innocent about being a weekend hippie. But I'm going into this with as pure and open an attitude as possible. There is a part of me that wishes I could have bought a Bonnaroo day pass for Friday, just to see RT. But now I'm eager for the total experience.

Pam -

Have a great time down there - will we see you at the 9:30 Club next week?

Oh, and say hello to wudzi for me.

Tony

Hi Pam- Yes, I just joined the RT list and that is where I saw your post about your blog. I am a newbie to the list, so I have much to learn. I saw RT in Knoxville in June 2006 and there's been no turning back. Is there really an demographic for Thompson fans?

Julie--I was at the Knoxville show. Front row. Was that the show where he let the guy from the audience play his guitar? No, wait...I think that was Wilmington.

Anyhow...Demographic? For some reason, a whole lot of RT's fans are librarians. No one seems to know why. (I dropped out of library school six credits short of my MLS.) I believe that Judy Dyble (from Fairport, and once RT's girlfriend) was a librarian, as was (someone said the other day) June Tabor. And I'm pretty sure I once heard RT introduce either Pat Donaldson or Rory McFarlane--wish I could remember which bassist--as "Librarian by day, rock-and-roller by night."

Glad to hear your reports! And that is great to hear about all the libs. associated with Richard. Librarians have a tough stereotype to live down.

My copy of The Old Kit Bag that I bought used has a cool sticker on it: "No Longer Property of Seattle Public Library". What were they thinking? Who could weed our RT? Maybe they just got a new copy...
